It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Edward Griffin announces his passing after a brief illness, on Saturday, September, 9, 2017, at the age of 82.
Chuck will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Marylee and his four children, Bryan (Becky) Griffin, Kim (Dennis) Barcellos, David (Shelley) Griffin and Curt (Kim) Cappello. Chuck will be fondly remembered by his five Grandchildren, Brian Post, Neill Barcellos, Connor Cappello, Cade Cappello, Jason Bradford and four Great Grandchildren Tyler, Lola, Cecilia and Ellie Post. Also fondly remembered by his Mother-in-law Mildred Gallaway, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his Grandson Timmy Post.
Chuck was born on September 29, 1934 to the late Glen and Willa Griffin in Atwater, California. He was one of three boys preceded in death by Raymond and Carrol Griffin.
Chuck attended Atwater elementary schools and graduated from Livingston High School in 1952. Worked as a Mechanic and a Bus Driver for Merced Union High School District from 1952-1957. Enlisted in the Army in 1957 and returned home from Germany in 1959. Chuck became a reservist for Atwater P.D. and Merced County Sheriffs Dept and went on to graduated from California Highway Patrol Academy in 1964 and served until 1972. In1969 became a business owner of Atwater Glass. After selling the business to Harmon Glass he retired in 1996. Also during this time he became the Promoter of Merced Fairgrounds Speedway from 1985-2010.
Chuck loved being with his family at his family place in Long Barn, were he took his children and grandchildren hunting, fishing, skiing and ice skating. Chuck also loved the sport of Car Racing. His love for racing spanned over 60 years, from racing himself to Promoting to Mentoring. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family from Lucy’s
A Grave Side Service in memory of Chuck will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., Winton Cemetery District, 7651 Almond Ave., Winton, California. Celebration of Life to follow at Winton VFW hall located at 7093 Walnut Ave., Winton, California
