Helen Jacqueline Rice was born on November 2nd 1927 in Turlock, CA. She passed away on December 4th 2017 in Merced, CA at the age of 90. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; Gus & Marie Kangris, her husband; William Rice, her son; James Bruen, & her siblings; George (Sally) Kangris & Sophia Augustina Lewis. Helen is survived by her children; Alan (Dorie) Bruen, Debbie (Richard) Guertin, Tami (Paul) Taber, & William Rice, her 8 beloved grandchildren; Jordan Guertin, Jason (Miranda) Guertin, Zack (fiancee Glennel Warren) Jordan, Kara (Andrew) Berlin, James Bruen Jr., Jacqueline (Robert) Gregory, Janice Taber, & Eric Rice. She also leaves behind greatgrandchildren; Jasmine & Zakary Bruen, Daisi, Michelle, & Nikolas Gregory, Jaden, Nolan, & Nalani Guertin,  Lee, Reuben, Isaac, Abram & Julian Berlin and Token & Pako Taber. Helen returned to the Atwater area from Falmouth MA in 1976 . She worked for the Winton
library until her retirement, where she shared her love of reading with the community. She was a proud Gold Star Wife and member of;  Falmouth Amvets, Native Daughters of the Golden West, Ladies Auxiliary Post 7792 of Winton VFW and NAUS San Joaquin Valley Ch. 18 Helen was a true civic servant, who prior to her illness, volunteered her time in retirement to both the Merced Senior Center, and the Atwater Castle Air Force Base Museum. She was a devoted Air Force wife, who loved to cook, dance, and share stories about her childhood with her loved ones. Helen  had a love for arts & crafts, and crocheted many keepsakes for her family & friends. She loved the ocean, and her family is left with many wonderful memories of her frequent trips to the coast. She was a collector of elephant and owl figurines, and amassed quite a collection over her lifetime. Helen had a larger than life personality and her sense of humor lead to the telling of many jokes, and the pulling of innumerable pranks. She was a true matriarch to her family, and will be remembered as much as she is missed. We love you Nana! Graveside services will be held at the Winton District Cemetery Tuesday, December 12th at 1:00 p.m. Followed by reception at Winton V.F.W. Post 7792. www.cvobituaries.com
