Ruben Q. Diaz

December 25, 1933 ~ November 13, 2017 (age 83)

The Piano Brothers

Ruben Diaz, 83, was born to Ismael and Antonia Diaz on Christmas day, 1933 in Jalpa, Mexico. He was a long-time resident of Atwater, CA and was a prominent business owner. With extreme sadness and heartbreak, our beloved Ruben passed away on Monday, November 13th at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, CA. Our beautiful father, husband, grandfather, and friend will never be forgotten. Ruben only cared for others and was extremely loved by all. He never thought about himself but of his family and friends. Ruben came to the U.S. as a farm labor worker and eventually brought the rest of his family to the U.S. over 50 years ago. He raised his children in a loving and caring environment. He loved all animals and always had them around. He had chickens, doves, goats, cows, dogs, cats, horses, and even had a bull at one time.  Ruben was an Almond Tree farmer and had over 130 acres that he worked on himself and in his later years with his son, John. He was happiest out in the orchards looking after his almond trees and caring for them. He loved to chop wood and drive his tractor. Even in his 80s, he worked harder than those younger then him and always amazed people with how hard he worked and how much energy he had. Ruben was also a restaurant owner along with his sons, Joe, John, Hugo, Jimmy, and Roy. Ruben married the love of his life, Lupe Diaz, in Jalpa, Mexico 63 years ago. They had 5 sons and one daughter, Sonia DiazWaters. Ruben loved his wife tremendously and took care of her every wish. Due to the fact she could not drive, he would drop everything to take her shopping and to have her nails and hair done. He would help with the household chores and would run to the grocery store
at a moment’s notice to get anything she needed. They loved going on vacation to Mexico and would walk the plaza holding hands. His daughter would call him “El Consentido” because he was her favorite person in the world. Ruben was the second to the oldest of six children and is survived by his wife, Lupe Diaz, sons, John, Joe, Hugo, Jimmy and Roy Diaz, and daughter, Sonia Diaz-Waters. His brother, Jose Diaz, and his sisters, Chayo and Trina Diaz. He also had another brother, Jesus Diaz, who Ruben loved very much and was extremely saddened by his passing 15 years ago. He also had another sister, Guadalupe, who passed away over 25 years ago. Ruben has 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  Ruben’s legacy and wisdom will live on forever, not only with his children and wife, but to those who knew him. His family was the luckiest people in the world to have him as a father and husband and will continue to follow his example of humanity and selflessness.
