Samuel Garcia "Sam"May 8, 1937 ~ October 2, 2017 (age 80)
Samuel “Sam” Garcia, 80, went to be with the lord on Monday, October 2, 2017. Born in Merced, he attended Galen Clark School and graduated from Merced High School. He recently attended his 60-year class reunion and had a wonderful afternoon sharing stories and spending time with his former classmates.
Sam worked and retired from Modine Western (formerly Stuart Radiator) after 30 years. After his retirement, he began his favorite job at the Mainplace Movie Theater on Main Street. For the next 13 years, he loved greeting everyone as he took their movie tickets. Sam loved the lord. He attended Sacred Heart Church his entire life. He was a Eucharistic minister for many years and enjoyed spending as much time as he could in the chapel.
He enjoyed going to Dodgers games, watching the Dallas Cowboys, working in his yard and sitting on his porch. He was an avid Super Lotto player. Sam loved giving nicknames to the many friends and family who held a special place in his big heart. Sam was blessed with Dr. Hanimireddy Lakireddy, Dr. Jared Paskin, and the many nurses, pharmacists and office assistants who gave him such wonderful and compassionate care for so many years. Sam’s biggest blessing was his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Avelina, and his six children, Edward Garcia (Juana), Daniel Garcia (Linda), Maria Bertalotto (Troy), Lupe Delgado (Martin), Christina Garcia, Avelinda Garcia, and his loving Garcia family. He was proud to have 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 3 granddogs.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held on Friday, October 6th, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church in Merced. A public viewing will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a rosary at 11:30am, and concluding with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sam’s name to Sacred Heart Church, 519 W. 12th Street, Merced, Ca. 95341.
