Charles Leroy Glenn, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on October 11, 2018 at the age of 74.
Charles was born in Anadarko, Oklahoma on June 21, 1944 to Grover and Ruth Glenn. His family moved to California when he was very young and settled in the Central Valley, working in the agricultural industry. Some of Chuck’s fondest childhood memories are of the years he spent growing up in the town of Hughson and the surrounding area.
Charles married Linda Joan Rose on August 28, 1965 in Carson City Nevada. The two settled in the town of Atwater where they welcomed their first child the following year, a daughter named Cynthia. During the next several years Charles worked as a framer in the greater Merced area while he and Linda welcomed two more children into the family, sons Christopher and Chad. Chuck and Linda lived their entire lives together in Atwater and, in 2015 they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary before Linda’s passing later that year.
In 1977 Charles obtained his general contractor’s license and he and his partner started C&G Construction of Merced. Some of their most notable projects can still be seen today including the Olivewood Drive development, Villa Del Sol Condominiums, Merced Car Wash, and the renovations of the Thorington Building, and 460 W Main St. at Bob Hart Square where they installed Merced’s first glass elevator. Charles continued on with Glenn Construction, building residential and commercial properties until he officially retired in 2011.
Outside of work, Chuck enjoyed fishing, camping and boating with his family and friends. He enjoyed travelling and took his family on several motorhome trips throughout the United States and Canada. He was an avid country music fan, enjoying the honky-tonk bar scene so much, he created one in the basement of his home. He also enjoyed gardening and classic American cars, owning several throughout his lifetime.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Linda, parents Grover and Ruth, and brothers Howard, Donald and Ernest. He is survived by his children Cynthia (husband Scott), Christopher (wife Michelle), and Chad, grandchildren Brittany, Megan, Ryan, and Madison, brother Tom, sister Brenda, and several nieces and nephews.
A viewing for Charles will be held on Monday, October 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ivers and Alcorn Funeral Home, 3050 N. Winton Way in Atwater. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Tuesday, October 23rd at 11 o’clock a.m. with burial to follow at Winton District Cemetery in Winton.
