Hector “Nacho” Ortiz, our beloved family member, was called upon to be with the Lord on December 28, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. Hector was born on July 18, 1962 in Guadalajara, Mexico to the late Hector Ortiz and Guadalupe Ayala. He came to the United States when he was 7 years old and grew up in Planada, CA where he attended Planada Elementary School and graduated from Le Grand High School in 1980. He attended and played football for Merced Community College and worked numerous jobs in the retail field. He was a service manager for Pep Boys and utilized his talents as a mechanic at various locations in Merced. Hector was a dedicated police officer and started his 20 year law enforcement career with the Atwater Police Department. He worked for the Merced County Sherriff’s Department and was promoted to detective for the Merced Police Department. After retiring from the police department, he worked as a car salesman for Razzari Dodge in Merced. Before his passing, he was involved with Gateway Community Christian Church and was a volunteer officer for
the Atwater Police Department. Everywhere he went he was a positive influence to everyone around him. There was never a dull moment when you were around Nacho. He was a truly generous, kind, and caring person. He was the life of the party, always cracking jokes and always brought out the best in people regardless of the situation. Hector will be dearly missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him. He loved spending time with his family and friends especially his granddaughter Mila. Nacho is survived by his wife Andrea Ortiz, his daughter Lydia Ortiz (Phillip Lopez) of Merced, his son Hector Ortiz Jr. of Newport Beach CA, and granddaughter Mila Lopez of Merced. His sister Rocio Arroyo (Enrique) of Merced, his brothers Ricardo Ortiz (Alicia) of Austin Texas, and Juan Ortiz (Elaine) of Merced. His nieces Nora Arroyo and Marcy Stefanski, both of Merced, his nephews Luis Arroyo of San Diego, Estevan Arroyo of Merced, Richard Ortiz and Robert Ortiz of Atwater. He also leaves behind his best friend, his homeboy, Carlos Valenzuela. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 at Gateway Church, 353 E. Donna Dr. Merced. Viewing will be from 9-11am. Church service will be from 12-1pm. Interment following funeral service at the Calvary Cemetery in Merced, reception will follow at Gateway Church.
