Marla Francene Garcia

December 29, 1947 ~ December 31, 2018 (age 71)

Marla Francene Garcia passed away at home on December 31, 2018 after a long illness.

Marla was born on December 29, 1947 to Frank and Juanita Linville in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Marla moved to California with her family in 1953.

She attended Ballico Elementary School and Livingston High School. It was there that she met Max Garcia when she asked him to dance at the Sadie Hawkins high school dance. Max and Marla were married in 1965. She and Max had one daughter, Theresa. The family lived briefly in Merced and Los Banos before settling in Ceres in 1972 where Marla operated a day care business for several years.

In 1995 Max and Marla moved to “the farm” on the outskirts of Livingston. Marla was very creative and watched This Old House and HGTV remodeling shows before it was fashionable. Together they remodeled Max’s childhood home and turned the farm into a beautiful park-like setting where they hosted events for family and friends.  For several years she hosted the legendary Easter at the Farm; an event that started out small and grew to as many as 200 people. In recent years she and Max liked to spend time on the coast in Cayucos and travelling in their RV with friends.

Marla was preceded in death by her parents Frank & Juanita and brothers Henry and John. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 53 years, Max; her daughter Theresa Harp (Sean), grandchildren Cami and Myles Harp; her sister Judy Jantz (Jerry); brother Rod Linville (Carol); and many nieces and nephews along with their spouses and children.

The family would like to specifically thank her niece Dana Longinotti for the love and care she provided to Marla over the last few months and also to amazing care givers and nurses at Bristol Hospice.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 11 am at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home, 3050 North Winton Way, Atwater. Interment will follow at the Winton Cemetery. Remembrances may be made in her name to Bristol Hospice, 374 East Yosemite Ave, Suite 200, Merced, CA 95340 or Shriners Hospitals for Children at donate.lovetotherescue.org
