Roger Dean Corkery

December 4, 1940 ~ August 10, 2018 (age 77)

Dean was born December 4, 1940 in Minot, North Dakota to Roger and Margaret Corkery. Dean passed away suddenly on Friday, August 10, 2018 at his home in Atwater, CA. His family moved to Dos Palos, CA when Dean was very young. When Dean was 9 years old, his parents bought a dairy farm on Westside Blvd in Livingston, it is here where Dean went to High School and graduated in 1958. He went to Barber School and worked as a Barber at Tino’s Barber Shop in Merced for a while. Then his father was starting off in the tire business, so Dean gave up cutting hair to join his father.  He worked in the tire business for about 30 years. After that, he sold his tire shop and became an almond  farmer for 18 years. Dean had many interests outside of his almond farm, he owned the Irwin City Saloon and The Colony Restaurant with his good friends, Steve and Stephen Stravandakis. Dean was also a charter member of The Hilmar Lions, ECV Chapter 58 and Bar Hoppers. Dean  sold the almond farm and moved to Atwater where he enjoyed helping to raise his grandchildren, Sidney and Coby.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gwen Corkery, daughter Jenifer Corkery, brother, Kit (Judy) Corkery, Step-son Gary Patterson(Monica), three grandchildren, Sidney Corkery, Coby Corkery and Isabell Patterson. He is preceded in death by his brother, Kelly Corkery.

We would like to thank Dr. Arakelian of Turlock and Dr. Murlott of Valley Heart in Modesto for their years of care. We also extend our thanks to all of our wonderful neighbors and friends for all their support in this difficult time.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Winton District Cemetery in Winton.
