Basil Bill “Papa” Webb, a proud veteran of three branches of service: the Army, the Air Force, and the Air National Guard Reserve; passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, in his home on August 23, 2021.
The son of W. Harrison and Jane Brown Webb, Bill grew up in Pine Knob, West Virginia. He was born July 4,1925 and attended Kansas City Business College in 1948.
In 1945, at the age of 20, Bill enlisted in the Army. He was detained by Russians during the Berlin Air Lift, for 6 months.
Even so, he served proudly. In 1952, he enlisted in the Air Force and in 1964 he enlisted in the Air National Guard Reserves.
Bill was a dedicated and loyal soldier, as well as a patient and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was the original owner of a favorite community business Bills Auto Wrecking. In 1971, he married Shirley Pinto. Together, they built their family for 50 years, including owning Bills Drive in Restaurant, and BMS Trucking. He is survived by his wife Shirley “Nana” Webb, his brother Troy and sister (niece) Mary and his daughters Lucy, Suzy (Gale), and Melinda (Gary); his sons, Shorty (Tracy), Albert, and Thomas; his thirteen grandchildren; his 15 great-grandchildren; extended family Darla & Robbie; as well as his devoted dog, Princess who stayed by his side always.
He is preceded in death by his two sisters and his three brothers, his two sons in law, his daughter in law and his beloved grandson Nathan.
His family and friends remember his great love for the Lord and his devotion to his family. Bill happily spent his life serving his church community. Bill was an amazing man of God, our family rock, and a devout prayer warrior. Papa spent most of his life and all his final years praying for others. Even in his last days, he prayed and virtually attended church with his caregivers. There isn’t a loved one who can forget his endless spaghetti and love for cooking for his family. Papa could always be counted on, for whatever you needed: a ride to church; a meal; a prayer-he always had a moment to share his wisdom or a joke that fit the situation perfectly.
