Betty Faye Anderson passed away suddenly at the young age of 90 in her home, on July 22, 2021.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Don Anderson, by her sister Jean Smith of Sacramento, by her daughters Debi Hutchings (Del) and Kathy Turnbaugh (Steve), and by 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Betty was born to Howard and Nell Smith on June 7, 1931, in Muskogee Oklahoma. She proudly called herself an Okie from Muskogee. At the age of 9 months, her family moved to Kilgore, Texas, where Betty’s greatest desire was to be a Kilgore College Rangerette. Sadly, this dream was not realized because she was too short.
At the age of 13, she moved to Sanger, California where she met the love of her life, Don Anderson. They were married on April 29, 1951, and remained blissfully married for over 70 years.
She was a homemaker and wanted nothing more. She was always home for her daughters at the end of the school day. She was very active in the church, teaching young children (ages 4 and 5) for 40 years. After that, for 20 years, she sent birthday, anniversary, and get-well cards to everyone.
She loved playing games with her family and friends. She would let young children win, but she was ruthless with adults. She will always be remembered for her friendly smile and kind words, and will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
A memorial service will be held for Betty at the church of Christ in Merced, 2050 Yosemite Parkway, on Friday July 30 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Betty’s name to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
Betty will be interred at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.
