Celia Tilghman was born in Cottageville S.C October 5,1924 to David and Lucille Smalls. Celia finished her schooling in South Carolina, met her husband Charles Hickman (deceased) and moved to California where she pursued a career in nursing. Celia worked at Merced General Hospital before landing a job at Castle A.F.B. where she retired after 28 years of service.
Celia accepted Christ at an early age at Canan Baptist Church in Round O, S.C. Celia continued to be of good Stuart while attending Christian Life Center, Merced Ca.
Celia met her late husband Brice Tilghman and was his constant companion as they traveled to various places including cruises ( seven day adventure to Alaska). The two were members of the VFW post 9946 in Atwater where she was in charge of the sick and shut in reports. Celia was also a member of the Over "50" club in Merced Ca. Celia also enjoyed going shopping, out to lunch and the casino with the ladies on the many bus trips provided by the Golden Charm. Celia would also cater to the requests of the community by making those delicious lemon cakes. Celia enjoyed spending time with her family as well.
Celia was a fashionable dresser with an exhibited and inviting personality, who made friends wherever she went.
Celia is preceded in death by her late husband Brice Tilghman, her great granddaughter Lakai Caldwell.
Celia is survived by her daughters Frances Johnson, Tammera (tammy) Carson, her grandson Danny Brice, her granddaughters Destenee Bullock, Dashea Wynne, three great grand children Desmond Grant, Ja'ceon Robertson, and De'Auri Wallace. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
