It is with deep sadness that on Saturday, February 20, 2021, Chester "Wayne" Morris, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away at the age of 77.
Wayne as he was affectionately known in California, was born February 12, 1944 in Lillie, Louisiana to Lavelle and Mattie Benson Morris, the youngest son in the family of 12 brothers. Chester Wayne grew up in Spearsville, Louisiana. At an early age he accepted the Lord where he received his religious training. He became a member of Westside Church of God, Fresno, CA, Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Chowchilla, CA and Christian Life Center, Merced, CA.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War 1965-1970 with Drill Sergeant duties. He worked in Construction for over 25 years, where he became an Union Representative and after retiring and moving to Merced, CA, he drove the Laidlaw School Bus for 5 years. The disabled children loved him.
Wayne's passion in life was talking. He was in constant contact with his children, grandchildren, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins and classmates which will truly be missed by everyone. He loved being an Usher at church, sometimes letting you sit where you wanted and sometimes being that Drill Sergeant, cooking, traveling and watching sports. He was known for being a giving and caring soul to what he believed would help someone.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father and mother. (Brothers) Prentice, George, Alvin, Clarence, James, Joe, David, Ray, MacArthur and (Grandson) Brandon Jr.
He leaves to celebrate his memory his wife of 25 years, Addie, one daughter - Daisy Smith (Adrian) of Gardena, CA; Two sons - Brandon Morris (Shemeka) of Oregon, Christopher Williams (Terryann) of Delaware; Two brothers - Billy Morris of Farmersville, LA, Edward Morris of Minden, LA.
Four grandsons - Devin and Dejour, Darrell (Miranda) Wright, Derrek (Myra) Wright, Three granddaughters - Briasia, McKenzie, Natalie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and down home kin.
A Memorial Celebration will be held at a later date.
