Be the first to offer your condolences on DR Robert's Tribute Wall
Robert (Bob) Tarbell was born in Ogden UT, and raised in Center Colorado. It was there where he gained a true love and respect for the outdoors. Upon his graduation with a PHD in Veterinary Medicine, Bob moved to CA to start his own practice. During this time, he met his wife of 49 years, Marion Danel, who helped maintain his practice. Living in California, Bob found a true passion for gold mining. Many summers were spent traveling to various rivers with Marion and their 7 boys, dredging and panning for gold.
When Bob got an offer to become a State Veterinarian, he packed up his family and moved to Merced. He was an accomplished Veterinarian, gaining respect from his colleagues and countless local ranchers. Two of his biggest accomplishments were being awarded Poultry Scientist of the year, for his dedication in his research achievements that benefited the poultry industry. And for his recognition in heading the Exotic Newcastle Disease Task Force, that was responsible for the eradication of this disease.
When Bob retired from the State, he wanted to put use to his farm land, and opened Atwater Jordan Christmas Tree Forest. For the next 22 years, Bob and Marion were selling fresh choose and cut Christmas Trees. During this time, Bob and Marion became friends with many different families who would return each year to cut a tree. Being he had a big white beard and wore a Santa's hat, kids would often wonder if he was the real Santa. Not wanting to confuse them, he referred to himself as Santa's Brother. Bob loved spending time on his farm and plowing his fields. It was there where he would always find his peace.
Bob passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a short battle with cancer. Bob is survived by his wife Marion, Brother-David Newmyer, Sister-Sally Meek, Sons-Bill (Boyd) Danel, Ron (Renee) Danel, Ken (Kathy) Danel, Kieffer (Kathy) Tarbell, Mike (Marlene) Danel, Ed (Samantha) Danel, 21 Grandkids, and 19 Great Grandkids. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his son-Aaron Tarbell. A service will be held at 10:00 am, October 14, at St Anthony's Church. A Celebration of Life will be held afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society, or Children's Hospitals.
