Obituary

Henry Hersman
January 1, 1951 - May 29, 2022
Winton, California - Henry Otis Hersman, age 71 of Winton, California, passed at his home on May 29, 2022. Named for his maternal Grandfather Heinrick and paternal Grand Uncle Otis, he was the first New Year's baby born on January 1, 1951 in Elizabeth, WV to the late Donald A. and Elfriede Luise Reichard Hersman.
Henry is survived by his wife Teresa Sanchez Hersman, having celebrated 49 years of marriage together. He is also survived by his three sons and their families. Eric Hersman (Lucila), Steven Hersman (Mary) and Rusty Hersman (Sarah). Grandchildren Andrew, Vanessa and Dominic Hersman, Christian McCarl, Joseph and Joshua Lesaca, Josele Razote, Elizabeth and Kaitlyn Hersman. Also surviving are his brother Richard Hersman, sisters Jane Hersman Nevel (Dennis), LuAnne Hersman Bush (James) and Connie F. Hersman (Clayton Flewelling) including several nieces and nephews and special cousins Tom Lowe and Rev. David Hersman. Lest we not forget Henry's faithful puppy Ricco, who was constantly by his side especially during his illness. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his older brother James Egon Hersman and his in-laws Raymond and Angie Sanchez.
Henry attended Salem High School, Salem, WV and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1970. Henry retired from the military after 22 years of service being stationed at Edwards AFB, Travis AFB, Castle AFB as well as bases in Korea. He and Terry operated Hersman's Daycare in Vacaville, Ca. before retiring in Winton, Ca. Their home always boasted children and home cooked meals, serving the boys' friends as well. Many fond memories were made.
Henry was a car enthusiast, sharing his love for auto mechanics with his sons. Many hours and late nights were spent bonding with them over engines and under hoods in their family garage. Henry never met a car engine, transmission or other auto mechanical ailment he could not fix. That knowledge lives on through the boys.
He loved his family and enjoyed his time with his grandchildren. He was very proud of the young men his sons became. Henry was loved, he was truly loved.
A private burial will take place at a later date.
