Henry Erling Engen passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital in Merced California on June 29, 2021 with both of his daughters at his side. He was born on September 21, 1937 to Ilo and Erling Engen in Modesto California. He served 4 years in the US Air Force and married Vernice Ellen Gardner on March 3, 1962. On October 23, 1963, he and Ellen had twin daughters, Kathleen and Merry. He worked for Pacific Bell as an engineer for 43 years, and returned multiple times as a contract engineer after officially retiring. He was an avid rockhound, and loved camping, hiking, looking for obsidian arrowheads, fishing, reading and his family. He loved working on engines, and passed that knowledge on to his son-in-law. There was nothing mechanical or in woodworking that he could not do.
He is preceded in death by his wife Ellen in January 2021, and survived by his daughters Kathleen Yasin and Merry Flores, his son-in-law Bill Yasin, his grandchildren Chelsea Gonzales, her husband Jeff Gonzales, his grandson Alex Yasin, his great-granddaughter Haylee Rocha and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be at Ivers and Alcorn funeral home in Atwater, California on Tuesday July 27th at 10:00 am, with interment and military honors immediately following at Winton Cemetery in Winton, California.
