Irene Maxine Roberts was born in San Jose CA on April 1, 1937 to Pearl and Clyde Robertson. She passed away Dec 26, 2020 from heart and lung issues that had unfortunately troubled her life for the last 10 years. She graduated from Livingston High School Class of '55, where she met her husband to be Dale Roberts.
Maxine and Dale were married on Sept 2, 1955 and had three children, Mark, Leslie and Janette. In 1992 they were fortunate to design and build their dream home in Atwater on 30 acres of land. When building the home, Maxine asked Dale why he was having a stove put in as she did not intend to cook anymore, so he better barbecue every night or get used to eating out! Retirement for Dale meant retirement for her, and the stove is still almost brand new. They enjoyed their married life immensely with Dale regularly pranking and teasing her until he passed away in 2007. Her kids continued to bother her daily and bring all the grand and great grandkids around to pester her as well, much to her enjoyment.
Maxine was a proud housewife and a stay-at-home mother while Dale worked at Sherwin Williams Paint. She was ahead of her time as she raised her daughters to believe they could do and be anything they set their mind to but raised her son in the traditional way boys were raised at that time. (She later regretted that.) Dale and Maxine were happily married for over 50 years, and she grudgingly accepted her title of “first wife”. After Dale passed Maxine found new interests and was active with her Livingston High School Reunion Committee and the Atwater Women’s Club.
She also became a world traveler with her brother Don and his wife Kathy, going to New York to cruise through the Panama Canal, cruise to Alaska, Hawaii, Northern and Western Europe. Maxine loved Christmas and eagerly looked forward to a weekend spent at Union Square in San Francisco every year with her daughters. They were weekends filled with shopping – always adding to her large collection of Christmas decorations, good food, and wine. Christmas was Maxine’s favorite time of year and she would start bugging her son after Thanksgiving to bring all the decorations in so she could get the house decorated.
Maxine was immensely proud of and is survived by her children Mark Roberts, Leslie Arriola (Bob), and Janette “Jett” Roberts-Mahy (Jason), grandchildren Julia Roberts Booth (Nate), James (Gina), Cameron, and Nick Arriola, Cheyenne and Luke Mahy, and great grandchildren Brooklyn Booth and Chase and Chloe Arriola. She is also survived by her younger brother Don Robertson and his wife Kathy.
