Jesse Gonzalez, 75, of Delhi, California, passed away on July 21, 2023. He was born on October 22, 1947 in Merced to Nicholas and Mercedes Gonzales. Jesse was a very personal and jovial man. He found pleasure in joking with anyone he encountered even if just in passing. Jess was most happy playing tennis with his tennis buddies and sitting around afterwards and joking with them. If you were a friend of Jess, there was nothing he would not do for you as many can attest.
Jess is survived by his beloved wife, Marty Nambatac, his siblings Ralph, Helen, and Leo Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Marie Rubalcava and Nick Gonzales.
Jess worked for the City of Merced Sanitation Department for 20 years and then went to work for UPS for 21 years.
Jess was into sports. He played football for Merced College under Coach Odishoo, and umpired high school and college baseball for over 15 years. He was on fast pitch teams and was on a traveling league with some very noted fast pitch players including Marty’s brother, Sonny Pomicpic. He played on the Old Stars Mexican-American Team and competed with a Mexican-American team in LA team each year. They would travel with the team on bus trips to LA. He won VP at one of their games, he was exceptional. He met Marty who was an avid tennis player and he picked up tennis so he could be with her on the courts. He took lessons and excelled and was a very good tennis player. They traveled with their tennis group to many clubs competing in the Sacramento area and as far as Mammoth. He said it was the bests of times being with the group. He also enjoyed golf especially with his compadre Eddie Cardenas and with some of his tennis buddies.
Jess was one of a kind. He was meticulous especially with his yard work, everything had to be perfect. His wife would often say if she could clone him, she would be rich and there would be very happily married women. He loved being around his friends. He made friends easily and would always be there for them.
Jess will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
