Jay passed away at home peacefully in her sleep. She was 91. Mom was born in Berenda CA on May 30, 1930, to Exciquio & Rosario Briceno. She was the third of nine children. She grew up in Chowchilla CA where the family had settled. As an adult she saw the White House and rode in the Goodyear blimp, never as a child growing up in Chowchilla did she ever think she would experience these things.
She met her beloved Amado at a Saturday night dance at the Legion hall in Merced. They were married November 16, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church. They continued the dance of marriage for 61 years before Dad’s passing in 2013. Mom settled in as a homemaker, taking care of the house, raising four kids, and having dinner on the table; and always having something sweet to eat for a night time snack. She was a “room mother” while we were in grammar school always willing to bake cupcakes for school functions. She enjoyed reading, (and napping, her happy place), watching her favorite soap opera, As the World Turns, and going out to lunch with her sisters. She worked at the voting polls for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Amado, parents, siblings, Guadalupe Flores, Belvina Gutierrez, Al Briceno, Vince Briceno, and Grandson-in-law, Elmo Vegas, Jr.
She is survived by her loving children, Frank, Greg, Georgette Padilla (Eddie), and Patrick, Sr.
Grandchildren, Marguerite Padilla, Raymond Castillo, Patrick (Matthew, as she called him) Castillo, Jr., Great-grandchildren, Beckham Castillo and Justina Castillo. She is further survived by her siblings, Lala Pulido, Merci Grissom, John Briceno, and Mary Sinks.
The family would like to thank Angelica and Angela at Bristol Hospice, in which we are eternally grateful. Lastly, her caregiver, Lupe V. for her love and dedication to Miss Justina these last three years.
