We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Merced Location
Linda Marie Garibay, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was taken too soon on May 25, 2022.
Linda, age 68, was born and passed in Merced, California. As a child, she attended McSwain Elementary and Merced High School. Merced is also where she met and fell in love with her husband, Arthur Garibay. They later married in 1988. Linda raised three children, worked and attended college classes. She graduated from Merced Community College(Alpha Gamma Sigma) in 1996 and California State University, Stanislaus(Phi Theta Kappa) in 2000. In 2004, after working for Merced School District, Linda began teaching 2nd grade in El Nido, California. There, she was loved, respected and feared...and she loved it. She was a MCOE Excellence in Education Honoree in 2021. She retired from El Nido Elementary School the same year. And while she loved to teach she counted down the days to retirement. She sadly was only retired for less than a year but she took advantage of every second. She was able to get back into all the hobbies she loved. Linda spent the last year with Arthur transforming their backyard into her plant filled retirement paradise. When she wasn't outside in the garden, she was knitting, crocheting, canning, baking, recipe collecting or sewing. She loved her crafts and she loved making things for her loved ones. She was as giving as she was talented.
Linda is preceded in death by her father Frank Caton Ormond and aunt/godmother Palmira Cotta. Her sudden passing has been heartbreaking to anyone that knew her, but no one will miss her more than her husband Arthur. She also leaves behind three children, Michelle, Michael(Julie) and Angela(Jacob). She was a loving grandmother(10) and great-grandmother. Linda was the oldest of five and her passing has left her siblings, Frank, Karen(Dave), Sharon(Scott) and Eugene(Toni), without their big sister/second mom.
At Linda's request there will not be a funeral and her burial will be held privately. There will be a gathering held in Linda's garden for anyone that knew her and would like to come appreciate the garden she worked so hard on for the last year. Time and date is still being decided but family will keep everyone updated.
