Lorraine Jones Morris, age 91, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 in Merced, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley E. Jones (1971) and husband Frank Morris (2020). Lorraine lived a long and beautiful life filled with love and family. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
Born Lorraine Mae Komarek on November 8, 1929 to Adolf and Theresa (Stika) Komarek in Cresco, Iowa, she was the second born of four children.
Lorraine enjoyed time with her family, friends, playing Bingo, and traveling the globe. She spent much of her time serving in various ministries at United Methodist Church of Merced.
Lorraine loved teaching, retiring in 1993 after 45 years of service teaching children. Her teaching career went full circle, beginning in a one room schoolhouse in Iowa, on to Our Lady of Mercy, a private Catholic school, and finishing out her career teaching in the Merced City School District. Lorraine did not stop there; she went on to mentor senior citizens in navigating their golden years through the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) as a volunteer. Lorraine was generous with her time and knowledge and always willing to help others. To paraphrase Dan Rather, ‘The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you on to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called truth.’ Lorraine believed in her students and did not permit them to give up.
Lorraine is survived by her three children: Charlene Jones, Jill Haynes, and Stanley Jones; her grandchildren Adam, Matthew, Lindsay, Drake, and her great-grandchildren Garrett, Marisa, and Kitt; her sister Jan Stevenson; as well as many extended family members in the Midwest.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Ivers and Alcorn-Merced between 4:00-7:00 p.m. Lorraine’s final resting place will at the Merced Cemetery District. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Terrie’s TLC Senior Home and Bristol Hospice for their dedicated care. In lieu of flowers, tribute donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
