Louise “Sissy” Emmert passed away on May 8, 2022 at the age of 89 in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 20th, 1932 in Merced to William James and Doris Turner, Louise was to spend most of her life here. During a 66 year marriage to Allan Emmert, she raised three daughters and worked as a mail carrier and postal worker. Late in life she went back to school for training in nursing and attained certification as an LVN at the age of 59. She put these skills to use during mission and humanitarian trips to Kenya in East Africa, where there can be found a handful of children in whose births “Sissy” assisted and who now bear her name.
Her life was defined by an unbounded generosity and hospitality. Her home and table were open to all–whether family, friend, or stranger. She was a mother to many, and still more found shelter and sustenance in her care.
Louise is survived by a brother, two daughters, six grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial honoring Louise’s life will be held at Gateway Church in Merced on Saturday, May 14th at 11 AM. All are welcome to attend.
