MILDRED K PITTS

January 24, 1928 ~ March 18, 2022 (age 94)

Obituary

Mildred Pitts was born on January 24, 1928 in Illinois to Glen and Esther Krauth. She passed away at the age of 94 on March 18, 2022, in Merced, Ca.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Leon, brother James Krauth, and sister Bessie Krauth. She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Polly, son John and his wife Kim, and daughter Issa; granddaughters Alysha, Shana, and Lindsay; and great-grandchildren Ares, Mackenzie, and Athena.

Mildred’s life was full of strength, dedication, and an abundance of love. Mildred loved her nearly 70 years in Merced, and spent much of her time giving back to the community she loved so much. She worked for Farmers Insurance for 40 years and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Merced for over 50 years. Many of her days were spent volunteering with the church to give back to the community she loved - something she was strongly devoted to until her final days.

Mildred found joy through crafts and gardening. She spread joy through her handmade crafts - something many of us will hold onto for years to come. Her beautiful gardens were something to admire. There are many memories of her surrounded by flowers.  Mildred’s greatest joys in life were being a foster parent from 1959-1963 and 1967-1969, and becoming a great grandma to Ares, Mackenzie, and Athena.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the congregation of United Methodist Church for the love and support provided to Mildred through the years. The church has been, and continues to be, a blessing to our family.  The family would also like to extend our gratitude to the Smiley family for the dedication, support, and love they’ve shown to Mildred over the years;  especially so in the most recent years, as our family has been away from Merced.  A viewing for Mildred will be held on Saturday March 26, 2022 from 12pm - 1:30pm at United Methodist Church, 899 Yosemite Pkwy, Merced, CA. Services will follow at 2pm.

Mildred will be laid to rest with her husband Leon at the San Joaquin National Cemetery at a private burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mildred’s name to the United Methodist Church of Merced to help continue supporting the community she loved so much.
