1945 ~ 2020 (age 75)

Obituary

Our beloved Margaret (Castanon) Rodriguez ,75, passed away peacefully Friday morning, October 2, 2020, with her loving family by her side at Mercy Medical Center in Merced, California.  Margaret was born on August 4, 1945, in Pamona, California, to her parents, the late Nick and Nellie Castanon. Margaret was raised in Five Points, California with her brothers Nick, Jerry, Frank, Abel, and Lawrence Castanon. She is preceded in death by her only sister, Vera Hirrel.

Margaret graduated from Riverdale High School in 1963.  She attended West Hill College before marrying the love of her life, her husband of 56 years, Frank Rodriguez, on May 8, 1964.  They would have two children, one daughter Elizabeth Alcorta, and one son, Frank Rodriguez Jr. and move to the Merced area in 1966.

Margaret worked at Franklin Elementary School in Merced as a teacher’s aide and attended Merced College. She worked at Mervyns at Merced Mall for several years. She eventually retired from working retail and became a full-time grandma. She has one grandson, Frankie Rodriguez III and three granddaughters, Sarah Alcorta-Grimes, Rebekah Nellie Alcorta and Rachel Margaret Alcorta.

Margaret was a woman of faith and attended St. Patrick’s Parish since the day they opened and before that she attended Our Lady of Mercy. Margaret had many hobbies. She enjoyed cooking, never missing the opportunity to make a special meal for each family members birthday. She expressed her love for her family by sharing hand-made quilts, blankets, scarves, and hats. Margaret would get many of these projects done as she would watch play-off games with her husband, Frank, in their Raider Nation room.  She always bragged about her grandchildren and made sure she would attend their school activities.  If there was a family gathering Margaret and her husband would be there to stay in contact with family.  She always sent birthday cards, Christmas cards, congratulation cards and sympathy cards to her extended family. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who got to share a conversation and a laugh with her through the years.

Margaret is survived by her husband Frank; her children Liz and her husband Eddie; and Frank Jr. and his wife Jamie; her grandchildren: Frankie and his wife Rachel, Sarah and her husband Tim, Rebekah and Rachel; brothers; and many aunts; uncles; cousins.
