Obituary

Maria Flores

March 21, 1953 - September 20, 2021

Maria Flores passed away September 20, 2021 in Elk Grove, CA surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren and extended family. Maria, 68 years old, was a devoted wife to Jose Cuauhtemoc Flores for over 40 years. She was born March 21, 1953 in Raymondville, Texas, the daughter of Graciano Miranda and Heriberta Miranda.

As the youngest of nine children, Maria’s family worked as migrant farmworkers. This work took them to Washington, Oregon, Arizona and California. In 1960 the Miranda family settled in Planada, CA, and Maria attended Le Grand High School where she graduated in 1972. She moved back to Merced, CA, in 1985, where she raised her four children.

Maria was the heart and caretaker of her family and enjoyed cooking Mexican food, gardening, sewing, watching football, baseball, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Maria absolutely loved spending time and spoiling her grandchildren. Each one of them held a special part in her heart. The joy she had baking cupcakes and cookies with her grandchildren and watching them decorate their masterpieces was priceless. She also enjoyed spending time with the “Golden Girls” planning yearly dinner/casino trips to celebrate each other's birthdays.

She passionately made quilts, blankets, clothes, and dolls for her children, grandchildren and family. She knew everyone's likes, and because of this she busily made special individual masks when COVID hit. She made and sent them with love. She enjoyed her many vacations to Washington state, Sacramento, San Diego, Los Angeles and Tijuana, MX, to visit family. She will be missed dearly by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Maria is survived by her husband, Jose Cuauhtemoc Flores of Merced, CA, her daughter’s Erika Lucero (Casey Lucero) of Elk Grove, CA, Olivia Flores (Gabriel Tovar) of San Diego, CA, and her son’s Cuauhtemoc Flores and Fernando Flores of Merced, CA. She is also survived by her 6 loving grandchildren as well as her siblings Maria Paz Magaña, Juana Miranda, Pedro Miranda, Guadalupe Miranda, Gregoria Miranda and Frank Miranda. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Domingo Miranda and Jose Miranda and parents Graciano Miranda and Heriberta Miranda.
