Mary Martha Orozco was born on October 19, 1928 in Los Angeles to Eulogio Salinas Orozco and Marie Gabrielle Loquet Orozco, the 2nd of 8 children. She joined her 1 year old brother Gilbert and was followed by Joseph, Patricia, Edward, Raymond, Teresa, and Ernest. She was known as little Marie to her family. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in June 1946 and later that year eloped to Yuma Arizona with Henry Campos Arizmendi(Naro) where they married in a civil ceremony. Her father would not allow her to live with her new husband until they married at St. Martha’s Catholic Church on Vernon Avenue in Los Angles on February 15, 1947. Michael Joseph (Mick) was born in 1948 followed by David Anthony in 1949, Christine Mary in 1950, and Rosemarie in 1951. As a devoted Catholic, she would take us to Mass every Sunday at Our Lady of Victory in Compton where we’d squirm and whisper until she would give us the “look” to straighten up and pay attention. She would take the streetcar from our home in Compton to Stationers Corporation in Los Angeles in the early days and followed Sam Warner and other associates when he started Pioneer Stationers on Bandini Blvd in Los Angeles. She retired in September 1998 but remained in touch with her work friends for many years. She then worked part time at the Downey Library. Mom and dad moved the family to Bellflower in 1960 where they lived until 1989 when they moved to Merced. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital for many years and was a devoted parishioner of St Patrick’s. After our father passed away in 2006, she lived contently, attending novenas, choir practice and other church activities. When it was clear she could no longer be alone, we sold her home and she lived with Rosemarie and Sandy for 5 years before we moved her into assisted living. Because of her dementia, she suffered several falls and COVID-19 it was decided to bring her home to Chris where she lived the last 6 months of her life lovingly cared for by her niece, Linda and her daughter.
She was a beautiful woman with a sweet temperament who loved her parents, siblings, children, grandchildren and many friends. She was firm in her faith in God and His promise of salvation. She said goodbye to many loved ones in her life, including her mother, father, son, David, brother Eddie, sister Pat, and numerous others who she loved and missed terribly. She leaves behind many who will mourn her death but celebrate her life. Son, Mick and Linda Arizmendi, Grandaughter Colleen Arizmendi & husband Joe Mason and great granddaughters Hailey, Andera, and Cara Mason; Grandson David Mark Arizmendi; Daughter Chris Crum and grandson and godson Edwin Henry Crum (son in law Ed passed in 2012); Daughter Rosemarie Selcon and husband Sandy Selcon, Granddaughter Kristen Koob Fertitta and husband Damien, and great grandsons Riley and Davin Fertitta; Grandson Dustin Koob and wife Trisha. And her remaining siblings, nieces, nephews, and others too numerous to name. As we move forward in our own lives we will think of her often sometimes with a chuckle and sometimes with tears. The very thought of her will cause very real emotions and that is how her love lives on. Rest In Peace our dear sweet mother.
