Obituary
Mathus Powell Jr. was born in Olla (Standard) Louisiana on December 5, 1939, he was the second child born to the late Mathus Powell Sr., and Irene Miles Powell Barnes. He received his formal education in Louisiana at Grambling College, graduating with a BS degree in Elementary Education. `
Mathus met Marlene Coleman at Grambling College in 1957, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in education. Four years later he married Marlene Coleman on August 12, 1961, at her grandfather’s house. To this union Mathus (Brother) is the father of three sons, Mathus Powell III, Kenneth Coleman Powell and Rodney Milton Powell. He is also grandfather to Elizabeth Marlene Powell, Corissa Ines Powell, Rhona Lyn Powell, and Riley Mathus Powell. And a great grandfather to Mika Powell. He is the brother to Dorothy Mae Powell Simpton, Benny Barnes, Regena Barnes Jones, also the brother to the late Lue Lawrence Powell and Lula Mae Powell Freeman.
