Nancy Avonell Hollon
June 4, 1938 – April 16, 2021
Nancy Avonell Hollon went home to be with the Lord on April 16, 2021 in Modesto, CA. Avonell was born on June 4, 1938 in Quitman, Arkansas to Aubery and Willie Mae Gentry. She was one of three children. In 1952 at the age of thirteen, the Gentry family moved to Merced, California. She attended schools and graduated in 1956 from Merced High School. As God would have it, she met the love of her life, Leonard “Red” Hollon. Knowing that God had ordained this relationship, they entered into Holy Matrimony on July 10, 1959. From this union God blessed them with five beautiful daughters- which were her world. She loved the Lord and was also a proud member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Avonell loved many things. Some of her favorites included a good ol’ glass of ice tea, cooking, baking, crocheting, visiting with friends, and more than anything she really loved spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Leonard “Red” Hollon and her parents,Auberyand Willie Mae Gentry. She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters: Nancy Newhoff (Earl Greener), Cindy (Ed) Verderber, Kathy Hollon, Becky Hollon, and Natalie Aponte (Tony Lewis). One brother, Roger (Sharon) Gentry, and one sister, Lois Smith. Eight grandchildren: Brian Verdeber, Joshua Newhoff,Daniel Newhoff,Dustin Verderber,Stefanie Verderber, Gabrielle Aponte, Aubreanne Aponte and Gillian Aponte. Four great-grandchildren and many family and friends.
