Norman Gerald Mancebo was born in Merced, California on January 22, 1941, to Albert and Elsie Mancebo. When Norman was 12 years old his family moved to San Juan, Peru for a job his father received with Miles & Sons. Norman moved back to Merced when he was a freshman to attend El Captain High School where he lived with his aunt. He spent the next 4 years traveling back to Peru in the summer to spend time with his parents and siblings. After he graduated high school Norman joined the US Army. He served from 1963 to 1966 and was stationed in Germany.
Norman worked for the City of Merced in the Public Works Department for 26 years and retired in 2002. After Norman retired, he enjoyed working out at In Shape Health Club and donating his time at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Merced.
He is survived by his sisters, Carol Gamble, Myrna Morehouse and MaryEllen Emrich; his nieces and nephews, Lorna Morehouse, Jack Morehouse, Melissa Gamble, Jenny Mullins, Suzanne King and Julianne Cosyns.
The family would like to thank Franciscan Health Care and Bristol Hospice for all their help and support. Rosary and Mass will be held on February 4, 2022, at Our Lady of Merced, 459 W. 21st St., Merced, CA 95340. The Rosary will begin at 8:30 am and Mass at 9:00 am. Norman will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery with his parents. A private burial will be held at a later date.
