Mr. Richard Arthur Cobb of Merced, Ca, for almost 50 years peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home at the age of 85 on April 13, 2021. Richard was born in La Grange, North Carolina, May 28, 1935, to the late Elveta Cobb Kinsey. The second born out of four children, Thelma, Richard, Nell, and Evelyn, he was the only son. He is preceded in passing by his sister Thelma and his wife Hettie E. Cobb.
Richard was blessed with two long careers. He served in the United States Air Force for 21 years, and in the United States Postal Service for 22 years. He was also a long time member of the Masonic Lodge and often went to meetings and events. Throughout those working years, he was able to balance working, getting an education, spending time with his wife, going to sports events of all three boys, and most importantly finding time to go fishing.
Richard was an adventurous man and often talked about or made the effort to do things he would dream about. He made a few fishing trips to Alaska with family members, and drove CASUALLY across the country with his wife, Hettie. He had many stories and experiences to share with all of his boys. Many of the experiences involved one member of the family or all of them.
Richard was a loyal, dependable man that was “no nonsense” but very caring. This was shown in his dedication to his careers by the length of time serving at those jobs until he retired. When Hettie suffered a stroke and had to be placed in a healthcare facility, he tirelessly showed up and made sure his wife was taken care of. Richard had to pretty much be forced to take a break and take care of his own health.
Left to cherish Richard’s memories are his two sisters Nell Kinsey, and Evelyn Parker; three sons, Richard Arthur Cobb, Jr. (Felicia) of Sacramento, CA, Eric Maurice Cobb of Stockton, CA, and Glen Alec Cobb (Kathy) of Merced, CA; 8 grandchildren, Kenisha, Raynisha, Ivory, Chad, Ryan, Kate, Mitchell, and Ju’well; 3 great-grandchildren, Julianna, Ja’leah, and Alexander, and a host of nieces and nephews.
