ROBERT "BOBBY" VASQUEZ
Robert “Bobby” Vasquez of Atwater passed away in Modesto on August 21, 2021 after a short illness. Bobby was born in Merced on May 17, 1957 to Morris Vasquez, Sr. and Ramona (Amaro) Vasquez. He attended Winton grade schools and Atwater High School.
Bobby was married to Debra (“Debbie”) Granado from Livingston for 38 years. Together they had three children, Robert “Robby” Vasquez, Jr. (Gaby), Vanessa Ortega (Rigo) and Bianca Montanez (Fredi). Bobby was the proud grandfather of three grandchildren whom he loved to spoil with love and sugar: Robert Jacoby “RJ” Vasquez, 13, Mateo Bulmaro Ortega, 7, and Olivia Marie Ortega, 4. He also took pride in being a Godfather, a brother, an uncle and a friend, and a “Compadre.”
Bobby operated the City of Atwater’s water system for 38 years. He was everyone’s friend and always doing for others. Bobby enjoyed working hard, mowing lawns, cooking for friends and family, and sending his guests home with a jar of his famous hot, delicious salsa. He enjoyed sports, as a spectator, fan, player and coach. He played for Green Machine, Blue Magic, and Old Stars. He coached Atwater Youth Baseball with his son, and he coached the men’s and women’s Granado Trucking baseball teams. He loved to organize bus trips to watch his Giants and did so for 18 years. He also loved going to concerts, camping and golfing. Bobby was a proud member of the Mexican American Golf Association (MAGA), the C-10 Club, and the Merced Elks Lodge.
He is survived by three sisters: Andy Vasquez and partner Nancy, Cecilia “Sassy” Arceo and husband Armando, and April Vasquez. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Morris Vasquez, Jr., and his sister Margaret Vasquez.
