Renate Ernestine Merz O’Leary
10/12/1938 – 7/29/2023
Renate O’Leary, age 84 passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023. She was born in Kaiserslautern, Germany on October 12, 1938. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Paul Andrew O’Leary, her parents, Karl and Margareta Merz, and her brother, Werner Merz. Paul and Renate were married on March 6, 1958, and lived in Germany, Massachusetts, Texas, and Japan before finally settling in Atwater, California in 1965. Renate was a loving, dedicated wife and mother of five children.
She is survived by her sister, Inga of Germany, children Kathleen and husband Brad Duncan of Atwater, Paul A. and wife Kimberley O’Leary of Broadway, VA, Patricia and husband Mike Stephens of Atwater, Michael and wife Rose O’Leary of Jackson, CA, and Mary Ann O’Leary and Jeffrey Hinton of Viola, AR. She is also survived by grandchildren: Michelle, Danielle, Marissa, Paul III, Kathryn, Cody, Nicole, Michael Jr., Austin, and Katelyn and great grandchildren Tyler, Conner, Blake, Drew, Taylor, Jordan, Levi, Lunden, Zachary, Jackson, Ryan, and Greyson.
Funeral service will be private for the immediate family with internment at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella. Renate was truly loved and will be missed.
