Ruben Grueso Cosio was born on December 3, 1948 in Indang, Cavite, Philippines to Alejandro Cosio and Librada Cosio. He was the third oldest of 16 children. Ruben attended his local high school, Indang Western Cavite Institute, and was known for his athleticism and talent with basketball. After high school, Ruben joined the Philippines Navy from years (1969-1975). During his experience with the Philippine Navy, Ruben accomplished Underwater Operations Training (UOT), completed Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training, and was often chosen for Philippines Presidential Security. In 1976, Ruben moved to Dubai, United Arab Emirates as a SCUBA diver and did contract work with underwater maintenance, repairing the hulls of oil tankers. He met his wife, Gregoria, in Dubai and they were married on January 12, 1980 in Mindoro, Philippines. In 1994, Ruben came to the United States and created a home in Merced, California with his wife and children. Ruben was a man of great faith and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church every week. He enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family and loved telling them the best stories. His humor, advice, and faith kept his peers always happy, comforted, and enlightened. On June 19, 2020, Ruben passed away at the age of 71. He is preceded by both of his parents, Alejandro & Librada, and siblings, Glenda, Ronnie, Ernani, Manuelito, & Ramel. Ruben is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gregoria, children Michael & Jay (Kathy); grandchildren Michael, Janaeya, Jenalyn, & Francis; siblings Estrellita, Rodenilla, Armando, Celedonio, Rodolfo, Monette, Roel, Leilani, Grace, & Clea; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Ruben lived his life being dedicated to helping and caring for others, and he will be greatly missed.
