Obituary

Salvador Anguis December 1, 1943 – July 22, 2023, Merced, California – In loving memory and with a heavy heart the Anguis family announces the passing of Salvador Anguis. Salvador passed away after a brief illness on July 22, 2023. Salvador was born on December 1, 1943, in Los Angeles, California to Jack V. Anguis and Maria Ymelda Galindo. He graduated from Lakewood High School, Lakewood, California in 1960.

            Salvador was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Atwater, California from 1961 to 1965 in the 93rd Field Maintenance Squadron where he worked on the flight line. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force.

            In 1964 Salvador married Clara, the love of his life and from then on, they were inseparable. Salvador and Clara moved to Long Beach, California in 1965 where he was employed with North American Aviation in Seal Beach, California, and had the privilege to work on the second stage of the space craft Saturn V. He and Clara moved back to Merced, he attended Merced College and earned his associate degree in 1972 attending night classes while working at Boeing at Castle Air Force Base. He then was employed by Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company/Pacific Bell as a splicer technician and retired after 30 years of employment.

            Salvador enjoyed building and flying radio-control model airplanes and is a former member of the Merced County Radio Control Club. Salvador had a fascination and love of airplanes. He was an avid Rams fan and could not wait for every new football season to begin to cheer for the team to win. Salvador also enjoyed science fiction movies and read many science fiction books. He was an animal lover and had many pets over his lifetime. Salvador learned and enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife. His family shares many happy memories of family outings in Yosemite and fishing in the nearby rivers of Yosemite, bicycling and horseback riding in Yosemite and many other joyous family outings and events. His family members knew him for his sense of humor, his kindness, caring manner, and warmth. Many whose lives he touched remember him as being a gentleman.

            Salvador was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Clara Anguis of 59 years, his children Salvador Anguis (Jana), Anna (Anguis) Pait, his brother Richard Anguis (Jenny) and his sister Mary Helen Caracoza, his grandchildren Marques Anguis, Mari Anguis, Santino Anguis, and Sky Pait and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Jack V. Anguis, his stepmother Celia Anguis, brother Jack Anguis, and granddaughter Summer Maile Pait.

            There will be a viewing at Ivers and Alcorn 901 W. Main Street, Merced, CA on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 4-8 pm. Services for Salvador will be held at St. Anthony’s Church in Atwater on Thursday, August 17, 2023, with a Rosary starting 9:30 am and Mass at 10:00 am, burial to follow at Winton Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered. A celebration of life will follow at Isabella's, 2811 Shaffer Rd, Atwater, CA 95301 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm.
