Teresa R. Torres was born on August 11, 1940 in Santiago, Tangamandapio, Mich, Mexico. She passed away on September 21, 2021. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alfonso Z. Torres, their first born child Yolanda, her son in law Orville Paul Jr, her parents Francisco & Trinidad Ramos, and 9 siblings. She is survived by 6 children, Alfonso Torres (Martha) from Merced CA, Teresa Nuñez (Lou) Murietta, CA, Mary Paul (Orville) from Adrian MI, Martha Torres from Millington, TN, Jaime Torres from Eugene, OR and Norma Barragán (Luís) from Merced CA, 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 6 siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a loving and compassionate wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren referred to her as "Mama Tere". Teresa worked in the canneries for many years and retired from California Tomato Growers in Merced. She was crowned queen of the Mexican Patriotic Festivities at the age of 15, was also crowned queen for the Edad de Oro Club at the age of 70, and was one of the first Merced County recipients to receive the Hands on Heroes Award in 2012. She was passionate about her cooking and would always say, "if you're not dancing while you're cooking, you are doing it wrong." She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is reunited with the love of her life, our Papa Fonso.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 29th at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home 901 W. Main St., Merced, CA 95340 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 30th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Merced with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Merced.
