Velma Lee Nutt was born September 6, 1942 in Merced, CA to parents James Ellis Yokley and Zelma Simpson. She passed away on December 31, 2019 in Merced, CA. She was 77 years old.
Velma is the oldest of five children. She spent most of her life in Merced, CA. She later relocated to Atwater with her Husband, James Nutt, where they ran a janitorial service until James passed away. Velma enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family. She always had a smile for everyone and didn’t hesitate to welcome people into her home. Velma inspired laughter and fun in others and her biggest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching sports and liked to imagine that she was cheering from the sidelines. Velma also loved seeing her grandchildren participate in extracurricular activities.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Ann Nutt, her husband, James “Junior” Nutt, and her brothers Albert Yokley and Terry Yokley. She is survived by her sons, James Henry Nutt and Anthony Wayne Nutt, of Atwater, her brothers Fred Barker of Fresno, Clifford Yokley of Atwater, and her mother, Zelma Barker of Fresno. She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Juwan Nutt, Gillienne Nutt, Kaleb Nutt and Madison Nutt.
Velma, you were as bright as the rising sun. Your energy and love filled the spaces wherever you were and drew everyone towards you. Your warmth was felt by many, and you will be missed. We will remember you in every sunrise, every rain drop and every rainbow. We will feel your spirit in every shining star and see your beautiful smile in every spring blossom. Your laughter will ring in every song a bird sings. You are in our hearts, and will remain there, until we see you again.
