On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, Verna Lee Anderson got her wings and went to walk with the angels. She was 76 years old and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was born in Indio, California, on January 6, 1947, to Robert Wesley and Essie Mae Anderson. Verna graduated from Merced High School in 1966. Verna was a compassionate soul who worked as a home care provider for many years, caring for others while raising her children. She played the role of both mother and father and despite these struggles, she provided a loving and warm home.
Many would describe Verna as a private person who enjoyed spending time with her cats and caring for her plants. However, she also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and anyone who knew her knew she was a strong independent woman with a sneakily amusing spirit. She will be missed for her classic greeting, “How youuu do?” and soft chuckling after making a playful remark or expression.
Verna was preceded in death by her mother Essie Mae Anderson; son Reginald Lynard Nelson Sr.; brothers Robert Dean Anderson and David O’Neal Anderson; and granddaughter Reggina Nelson.
Verna is survived by daughter Latonya Mills of Rodeo, California; sons Jermaine Hardy of San Jose, California, and Jason Baber of Merced, California; brother Lawrence Anderson of Merced, California; sisters Odessa Osby and Linda Harris of Merced, California, Mary Harewood of Sacramento, California, and Deniece Lee of Fairfield, California; grandchildren: Jasmine Nelson, Reginald Nelson Jr., Darquan Oggs, Isha Nelson, Vincent Luis, Jaydon Hardy, Malia Hardy, and Ma’lai Brown; six great-grandchildren, and countless family members and friends.
They invite you to join them for the Viewing being held on Monday, June 12th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home, 901 W. Main Street, Merced, California, 95340. All are welcome.
