Virginia Julia Jaramillo, 84, of Atwater, California passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023, after a recent cancer diagnosis. Virginia was born in Alhambra, California to the late Richard and Magdalena (Perez) Hernandez. Sister to the late Richard and Benjamin Hernandez.
She married Dan Jaramillo of Rocky Ford, Colorado in 1961. They raised their family in Rosemead, Hacienda Heights and Turlock, California. She and Dan briefly lived in Houston (TX) and retired to Atwater, where she lost Dan to cancer in 2001.
Virginia's positive, friendly manner and willingness to help in any way endeared those who met her. Her recent contributions include Beta Sigma Phi non-academic sorority (39 yrs.), American Cancer Society, Fruitland Club, St. Anthony's Altar Society, Women's Club of Atwater, Journey Catholic spiritual retreat (7 yrs.), YLI (Young Ladies Institute), and TOPS Atwater.
Virginia is survived by her daughters Irene Merrow (Geoff, deceased), Kathryn Ferguson (Frank) and Geri Sellers (Robert). She leaves behind grandchildren; James Hildebrand (Irene), Geoffrey Merrow, Daniel Merrow, Daniel Ferguson, Erin Ferguson, Matthew Sellers, Kenny Sellers, and Daniel Sims.
Her passing is felt by not only her family but by the many people in Atwater and Merced who were proud to consider themselves her friend.
Funeral services to be held on Saturday, January 21st, starting with a rosary (9:30am) and mass (10:00am) at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 1799 Winton Way, Atwater. Refreshments will be served at the Women's Club after the funeral service in Atwater, CA, corner of 3rd Street and 1201 Grove Avenue. A private burial will occur on a later date.
